This section allows you to customize many of the functions of Foxit PDF Editor. Use the table below to learn more about a specific setting/function.
Audience:
Organizations looking to customize Foxit PDF Editor before deploying it to their knowledge workers.
NOTEs:
** Any changes made in this section will be synchronized to the corresponding option in the application's Preferences and will not be reversable unless you deploy a new MST.
** Choosing Enabled or Disabled will grey-out the corresponding option in Foxit PDF Editor. Meaning users will not be able to adjust the setting on their own.
10. Change the Logo and Copyright.
This option allows you to change a) Logo, b) Copyright, and c) Copyright Content under the Help tab > About.
11. Admin Console Server
This is a legacy tool used to configure the server address for the On-Premises Admin Console.
If you have an On-Premises Admin Console, please contact us to upgrade you to the Cloud Admin Console.
12. Application Language
Use OS Language: Foxit PDF Editor will be installed in the user's OS language.
i.e. Person A and Person B work for Acme Corporation. However, Person A has Windows in English and Person B in French. If this option is selected Person A will see Foxit PDF Editor in English and Person B in French.
Choose custom language: This will install Foxit PDF Editor in the language selected.
Regardless of which option you choose, the user will always have the ability to switch the language on their own under the software's preferences.
13. Configure communication port range for Foxit PDF Creator printer.
This setting is used for configuring the communication port range for the Foxit PDF Creator printer if you have network security software, firewalls, redirection software, and other software that block socket communication.
The maximum and minimum values you typed will take effect. The valid port range is "1024-65535".
The default value "50000-60000" will take effect.
To ensure that Creator-related functions can run smoothly, we recommend setting an appropriate port range based on the number of clients in an environment. A single client environment should be configured with no less than 10 port numbers. For server environments, the range should be increased by corresponding multiples.
14. Disable ConnectedPDF.
ConnectedPDF was discontinued, the service is no longer active in Foxit PDF Editor.
16. Disable Live Chat.
Checking this box will disable the Live Chat Assistant on the bottom-right corner.
17. Disable Privileged Locations.
This setting specifies users' ability to add files, folders, and hosts as a privileged location.
Privileged locations are synonymous with “trusted locations.” and are the primary way that users and administrators can specify trusted content that should be exempt from security restrictions.
A privileged location may be a file, folder, or host.
Checking this box will prevent users from adding their own privileged locations under File Tab > Preferences > Security.
Note: Only enable this setting if you are planning to add privileged locations; otherwise, users will not be able to open any PDF from locations with security restrictions.
18. Disable QuickTime Player.
QuickTime Player now comes disabled by default. You do not have to check this box to disable it.
19. Adjust DPI settings.
This setting allows you to change the DPI of Foxit PDF Editor to match:
- Choose "Application" to render correctly whenever the DPI of the display that is running on changes.
- Choose "System" to automatically scale DPI by Windows.
- Choose "System (Enhanced)" to render correctly at a single display scale factor and become blurry whenever the DPI changes.
Note: Foxit PDF Editor will always match the DPI of your screen according to your resolution. Only tweak this option if you want to force a specific DPI setting.
20. Enable creating Self-Signed Digital IDs.
This setting specifies whether to allow users to have the ability to create their own Digital ID under "Protect Tab > Sign & Certify > Digital ID > Add ID"
- Default: Allows users to create their own Digital ID
- Disabled: Prevents users from creating a new Digital ID.
Note: This does not prevent users from creating their own Digital ID under Windows Certificate Manager.
21. Disable features which require internet connection.
This setting specifies whether to disable all features and tools that require an Internet connection.
- Default or Enabled: allows all functions that utilize the internet to work.
- Choose "Disabled" to disable all features which require internet connection.
- When "Disabled" is selected, a list of features will be available for selection. You can specify features to allow internet connection by checking the items to add them to a whitelist.
- For example: if you select "SharePoint" then the only feature/tool that will be able to access the internet will be SharePoint, all other internet-dependent functions will not work.
22. Set a comment filter.
This setting specifies whether to filter comments by the original author only. You can
- Enabled will filter comments by the original author only.
- Disabled will filter comments by all participants.
- Default: Leaves the choice to the user.
23. Hide the activation code from the application.
Enabling this option will hide the Activation Code from the Help Tab > About.
24. Insert Printed PDF into Previously Generated PDF
This function will cause any file printed to PDF to attach to that PDF.
For example: If you print a Word document to PDF using the Foxit PDF Printer, the Word document will be attached to the newly created PDF file.
25. Disable JavaScript.
This setting controls whether to allow PDFs with JavaScript actions to run.
- Enabled: allows running JavaScript in PDF files.
- Disable: disallow running JavaScript in PDF files.
- Default: Leaves the choice to the user.
26. Control Foxit Approved Trusted List (FATL and EUTL) behavior.
This setting controls the behavior of updating certificates from FATL and EUTL under "File Tab > Preferences > Trust Manager"
- Disable: Don't load trusted certificates from Foxit server.
- Enable & ask before updating: Load trusted certificates from Foxit server but will ask before updating.
- Enable & install silently: Load trusted certificates from Foxit server but will install silently.
- Default: Leaves the choice to the user.
27. Lock Read Mode in Internet Explorer.
Foxit PDF Editor has an advanced plugin for IE that allows for PDF Editing or PDF Viewing inside IE. This option controls the behavior of the IE Plugin.
While in Edit Mode, users can mark-up, add text or highlight a PDF inside IE.
While in Read Mode, users can only view/read a PDF inside IE.
- Enabled: Enabled Read Mode and prevents users from exiting this mode.
- Disabled: Enables Edit Mode and allows users to switch between modes.
- Default: Leaves the choice to the user.
28. Lock the Auto-Complete function.
If this is enabled, the auto-complete function under "File Tab > Preferences > Forms" will be turned Off and grey-ed out. Users will not be able to turn On auto-complete.
29. Change the name of the application.
This setting allows you to change the program's name indicated in the Title Bar only, not in Start Menu or Program Files.
30. Force Multiple Instances.
This setting controls whether to allow multiple instances or not under "File Tab > Preferences > Documents"
- Enabled: Foxit PDF Editor will open every PDF in its own Window.
- Disabled: Foxit PDF Editor will open in tabs within one Window.
- Default: Leaves the choice to the user.
Note: This is not recommended since you can always create a new "instance" by dragging a tab out, similarly to how Google Chrome works.
31. Add NetDocuments to the Open From list.
This is a legacy setting. NetDocuments is already in the Open from list.
32. Require passwords to use Ink Signatures.
This setting controls whether to lock Ink Signatures with a password or not under "Foxit eSign Tab > Ink Sign > Manage Signatures > Options"
- Enabled: Foxit PDF Editor require a password when Ink Signatures are created/placed
- Disabled: Foxit PDF Editor will not require a password when Ink Signatures are created/placed.
- Default: Leaves the choice to the user.
33. Use GDI+ for Printing
Turning this ON will allow you to use GDI+ output when printing to paper using printers with PostScript drivers.
Note: This setting does not work for PCL printers.
34. Configure RMS settings.
This option controls how PDFs are protected using Microsoft's Rights Management Services (RMS) or AIP.
Add "protected" to the name of encrypted files:
- Enabled: Automatically adds the word "protected" as a suffix to the file name of all PDFs encrypted with RMS/AIP.
- Disabled: Does not add the word "protected" as a suffix to the file name of a PDF when encrypted with RMS/AIP.
- Default: Leaves the choice to the user.
Encrypt metadata:
- Enabled: Encrypts metadata when saving an RMS/AIP protected PDF.
- Disabled: Does not encrypt metadata when saving an RMS/AIP protected PDF.
- Default: Leaves the choice to the user.
Microsoft IRM Protection Version:
- Default: Uses IRM Protection v2
Save as:
- Allows the action "Save-as" when an RMS/AIP file is opened.
RMS Interoperability:
- Adds MicrosoftIRM conformance to all files encrypted using RMS/AIP
35. Disable third-party app security check. (Security warning)
If this is enabled Foxit PDF Editor will not warn users when a PDF is opened from an application that has not been digitally signed.
If your organization has an application that is not digitally signed, we recommend leaving this option UNchecked then add your application to the allow list. (See "Create a third-party allow-list.)
36. Change the in-app User Manual.
This option allows you to replace the in-app User Manual for Foxit PDF Editor.
37. Change crash behavior. (Share the PDF file that caused this crash)
This option controls what happens after a PDF is opened and Foxit PDF Editor crashes.
- Enabled: Automatically shares the PDF with Foxit. Users cannot choose otherwise.
- Disabled: Will not share the File with Foxit. Users cannot choose otherwise.
- Default: Users have the choice whether to share the file or not.
38. Disable the Status Bar.
This option controls the Status Bar's behavior under "View Tab > View Setting > Status Bar"
- Default: Users will be able to choose for themselves.
- Auto-hide status bar: Automatically hides the status bar and prevents users from choosing otherwise.
- Show status bar: Always shows the status bar and prevents users from choosing otherwise.
- Hide status bar: Hides the status bar and ad prevents users from choosing otherwise.
39. Disable the Tool Search box. (Tell me what you want to do)
This option controls the Tell me... function, which allows users to search for tools.
Checking the box will SHOW the box in Foxit PDF Editor.
40. Change the URL for the Tutorials.
This option controls where users are taken when the Online Tutorials button is clicked-on under "Help Tab"
41. Create a third-party allow-list. (Trusted Applications)
If your organization has an application that is not digitally signed, you can add it here to allow Foxit PDF Editor to open/save PDFs from that app.
42. Update Server
This is a legacy tool used to configure the server address for the On-Premises Admin Console.
