How to Deploy Foxit PDF Editor as the Default PDF Viewer (Without UAC Prompt)

Here's how to deploy Foxit PDF Editor as the default PDF Viewer in Windows without causing any UAC Prompts. 

Prerequisites: 

• Foxit Customization Wizard Tool

• Administrator with working knowledge of Windows Deployments 

Steps:

1. Open the Customization Wizard and Navigate to Installation Options 

   • Make sure "Set as Default PDF Viewer" is checked

2. Now, Navigate to Preferences > File Association

   • Forbid checking of default PDF viewer -> Enabled

   • System PDF Viewer -> Enabled

   • Web Browser PDF Viewer -> DEFAULT

   • Preview PDF Viewer -> Enabled

   • Thumbnail PDF Viewer -> Enabled

   • Embedded MS Documents Viewer -> Enabled

Here's what each of these means:

• Forbid checking of default PDF viewer:

  • When ENABLED: the option "Set to Default PDF Reader" under the Hel Tab will be greyed-out for end-users.

  • When DEFAULT/DISABLED: End-users will receive a UAC prompt every-time they open our PDF Editor, and it is not set as the Default PDF viewer/reader. 

• System PDF Viewer:

  • When ENABLED: Foxit PDF Editor will be set as the default PDF Reader/Viewer. 

  • When DEFAULT/DISABLED: Foxit PDF Editor will not be set as the default PDF Reader/Viewer. 

• Web Browser PDF Viewer

  • When ENABLED: Foxit PDF Editor will be set as the default PDF Reader/Viewer when viewing PDF files in Internet Explorer. 

  • When DEFAULT/DISABLED: Foxit PDF Editor will not be set as the default PDF Reader/Viewer when viewing PDF files in Internet Explorer. 

• Preview PDF Viewer:

  • When ENABLED: Foxit PDF Editor will be used to preview files in Windows File Explorer. 

  • When DEFAULT/DISABLED: Foxit PDF Editor will not be used to preview files in Windows File Explorer. 

• Thumbnail PDF Viewer:

  • When ENABLED: Foxit PDF Editor will be used to preview PDF file's thumbnails in Windows File Explorer. 

  • When DEFAULT/DISABLED: Foxit PDF Editor will not be used to preview PDF file's thumbnails in Windows File Explorer. 

• Embedded MS Documents Viewer:

  • When ENABLED: Foxit PDF Editor will be used open PDFs embedded in Microsoft Office.

  • When DEFAULT/DISABLED: Foxit PDF Editor will not be used open PDFs embedded in Microsoft Office.
