To obtain a driver that is compatible with the version for Windows you are running, contact the manufacturer.” when the installation is at the stage of installing the Foxit PDF Editor Printer driver. Then error message keeps popping up continuously if you press OK in the error message.
Solution
This error may be caused by the “Disallow installation of printers using kernel-mode drivers” policy being enabled in your local computer policy. To work around it, follow the steps below to disable the blocking policy for installation of printer drivers.
1.Press Windows logo key + R on the keyboard to open the Run box.
2.Type Gpedit.msc into Run box and press Enter to run Local Group Policy Object Editor.
3. In Local Group Policy Object Editor, under Local Computer Policy, expand(double-click) each of the following:
Computer Configuration---->Administrative Templates----> Printers.
4. On the right side of the screen, double click on ‘Disallow installation of printers using kernel mode drivers' setting to open Disallow installation of printers using kernel mode drivers window, click Disabled, and then click OK.
5.Run gpupdate or gpupdate/force in administrator command prompt to force a refresh of group policy settings or simply reboot your computer before retrying the Foxit PDF Editor installation again.
If the above procedures still don’t solve the problem, please proceed to do the following steps.
1.Rename the two folders below:
C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\W32x86
C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64
Please rename folders W32X86 and x64 to something else.
Rename the above two folders will remove your incomplete/broken/corrupted printer driver
installations and removing all printer settings, so if you have already installed working printers, you may have to reinstall the drivers again to work those printers as well.
2.Then Configure point and printer restriction in Local Group Policy Object Editor by doing following procedures:
1):In Local Group Policy Object Editor, under Local Computer Policy, expand(double-click) each of the following:
Computer Configuration---->Administrative Templates---->Printers
2):On the right side of the screen, double click on ‘Point and printer Restrictions
' setting to open Point and printer Restrictions window, click Enabled, make sure the Users can only point and print to these servers and Users can only point and print to machines in their forest options are unchecked. Under the Security Prompts, please select Do not show warning or elevate prompt for the option When installing drivers for a new connection and select Do not show warning or elevate prompt for the option When updating drivers for an existing connection, and then click OK.
3):Run gpupdate or gpupdate/force in administrator command prompt to force a refresh of group policy settings or simply reboot your computer, and then try to install Foxit PDF Editor again.
The above solution works for Foxit PhantomPDF 10 and prior versions as well.
