When you insert MP4 multimedia file into PDF file, you may receive the following error message:
"No software to open .mp4 files was found. Please install a video player program such as QuickTime or RealPlayer,"
The reason for this problem is that you are still using an old version of Foxit Reader which is lower than V10.1.1 and you also don't have QuickTime or RealPlayer player installed on your computer. To get around this issue, please follow one of the methods below:
The first method:
Please update your Foxit Reader to latest. Starting with Version 10.1.1,the insert MP4 into PDF file feature in Foxit Reader is independent of any media player on your computer. That is to say, even if you do not have any MP4 player installed on your computer, you still could insert MP4 file into PDF file with Foxit Reader version 10.1.1 or later.
However, when you want to play the embedded MP4 video in PDF file,it requires one of the following multimedia players:
- Windows media player
- QuickTime
- RealPlayer
Foxit Reader will call Windows media player by default for playing MP4 if your system has the Windows media player installed.
When you don’t have Windows media player installed and want to call QuickTime for playing the inserted MP4 file file in PDF file, you have to uncheck the option Do not use QuickTime Player for multiple items under the Multimedia(legacy) tab in Foxit Reader Preferences window.
The second method:
If you still want to use a version below V10.1.1,you need to install “QuickTime “or “RealPlayer” player on your system firstly since Foxit Reader needs to call the “QuickTime “or “RealPlayer” to either inserting or playing MP4 in PDF file.
Even if you have Windows Media player installed that supports playing MP4, you will still not be able to insert or play the MP4 file in PDF file with Foxit Reader.
In addition, you still need to do the following settings if you want to make Foxit Reader to call QuickTime for inserting/playing MP4 in PDF file:
Go to File tab in Foxit Reader>Preferences>Multimedia(legacy),please uncheck the option Do not use QuickTime Player for multiple items ,click on OK to save the setting.
