For instance, you received an e-mail message with an attachment of a PDF in Outlook. Usually, you can preview the attachment of the PDF directly in the Reading Pane without downloading it. Click the attachment below the message header, and it previews the attachment of PDF as the following screenshots show.
But now when you single-click on an attachment in Outlook, nothing happens without the reading panel appearing in Outlook.
Solution
This error may be caused if the “Turn off Attachment Preview” is enabled in the Trust Center in Outlook. To work around it, follow the steps below to disable the Turn-off Attachment Preview feature in Outlook to enable previewing attachments in the reading panel in Outlook:
- In Outlook, select File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings, and then select Attachment Handling.
Note: In Outlook 2007, select Tools > Trust Center > Attachment Handling.
- Uncheck the checkbox for Turn off Attachment Preview, and then click OK and OK buttons.
