The configurations described in this article work for both Foxit PDF Editor(V11 or later) and Foxit PhantomPDF(V10 or lower) .And this configuration is also applicable to the SharePoint 2016 server.
- Log in to the SharePoint server and find the DOCICON.XML file from the following location:
- Drive: \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web server extensions\ 15\Template\Xml\DOCICON.XML
- Open the DOCICON.XML file, and write <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="icpdf.png" OpenControl="FoxitPhantomPDF.OpenDocuments" EditText="Foxit PhantomPDF" OpenApp="FoxitPhantomPDF"/> under <ByExtension>, save
- Find the IIS server (Internet Information Services Manager) under Windows Administrative Tools, open it, restart the service; or restart it through the command line, enter iisreset

Enter the URL address of the SharePoint server on the IE browser and find the site setting

Locate "site collection" administration – site collection feature under site setting
- Find Open Documents in Client Application by Default, click Activate
- The status after activation is as follows:
- Open the document library and select Library Settings:
- Locate General Setting – Advanced Settings
- Check if the opening Documents in the Browser item is checked Open in the client application:
- Click the settings in the upper right corner of the IE browser, manage add-ons:
- Select All add-ons and check if Foxit PhantomPDF SharePoint OpenDocuments Component is available
