After updating to Catalina (macOS 10.15), the following error appears as a pop up when installing Foxit PhantomPDF for MAC V3.4 or lower:
"FoxitPhantomPDF340.setup.pkg" can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.
This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information.
Reason and Solution
macOS Catalina for mac (macOS 10.15) was released to the public on October 7, 2019,this released Apple's desktop operating system requires all apps that are signed with developer IDs to be notarized by Apple. However, We didn't submit Foxit PhantomPDF for MAC V3.4 and lower versions to apple for certification before, so it would be detected as unnotarized app in Catalina system. That is the reason why users receive the warning message when run Foxit PhantomPDF for MAC V3.4 and lower on macOS 10.15.However,it must be mentioned that our Foxit PhantomPDF for MAC V3.4 or lower has been passed all required tests in lots of anti-virus software before we release, it is security without any virus, please feel easy to install and use it.
Moreover, Foxit PhantomPDF for MAC has already been notarized beginning with Version 4.0, so users won't receive the mentioned warning message when install Foxit PhantomPDF for MAC V4.0 or higher.
To run Foxit PhantomPDF for MAC V3.4 or lower, you can temporarily override your Mac security settings to run it by doing the followings:
When Foxit PhantomPDF for MAC V3.4 or lower fails to install, it will appear in System Preferences > Security & Privacy, under the General tab. Click Open Anyway to confirm to install it.
