Problem
In Outlook 2016, when you select a PDF that is attached to an email to preview the page content, you may receive the following error message.
"The file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it"
Workaround
To recover the preview function, please try the following procedure.
1. Verify that the Shell Extension component in Foxit Foxit PDF Editor and Editor Pro was installed. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Editor\Shell Extensions or C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Editor\Shell Extensions, and see if there are two DLL files and one exe file. If they appear, the component was installed. Otherwise, Foxit PDF Editor needs to be reinstalled by installing the entire Shell Extensions feature during the Installation Wizard.
2. Exit Outlook.
3.Register Preview plugin "FoxitPrevHndlr.dll". Click here to learn how to do that.
4. Start Registry Editor.

In Windows 7, click Start, type regedit.exe in the search box, and then press Enter.

In Windows 8/8.1/10/1, press the Windows key + R to open a Run dialog box, type regedit.exe, and then click OK.
5. Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf\shellex\{8895b1c6-b41f-4c1c-a562-0d564250836f}
Check if the value of (Default) entry and PrevPreviewHandler is same as the following key:
{1B96FAD8-1C10-416E-8027-6EFF94045F6F}
If not, right click each entry of above, choose Modify and change the Value data to {1B96FAD8-1C10-416E-8027-6EFF94045F6F}
and click OK to apply the change.
6. Locate following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WOW6432Node\CLSID\{1B96FAD8-1C10-416E-8027-6EFF94045F6F}\LocalServer32
check the value for Default entry under LocalServer32, change it to "path\FoxitPreviewhost.exe"
For example:I have Foxit PDF Editor installed under C:\Program Files (x86)\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Editor\
I have to change the value for the item under LocalServer32 to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Editor\Shell Extensions\FoxitPreviewhost.exe
7.Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WOW6432Node\CLSID\{FFBD7029-84D7-4E1E-BE44-B6619BC545ED} ,change the value for the AppID string into
{534A1E02-D58F-44f0-B58B-36CBED287C7C}
8.Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\CLSID\{DC6EFB56-9CFA-464D-8880-44885D7DC193},change the value for the AppID string into
{534A1E02-D58F-44f0-B58B-36CBED287C7C}
If the above steps don't help, please further check whether the task manager under the current user of this computer has "FoxitPreviewHost.exe" process running. If Foxit PDF Editor is running under a server environment, please expand the "FoxitPreviewHost.exe" process in the task manager to check its next level to see if the current user name is displayed in the next level directory of the process.
If not, it means that the current user doesn't have the "FoxitPreviewHost.exe" running. That is the reason why current users cannot preview PDF files. Please further check whether the "FoxitPreviewHost.exe" process under the current user is blocked by other security software (such as MS Applocker). If yes, please unblock it from the security software.
