While installing Foxit PDF Editor/Foxit PDF Reader, you might encounter the following error message:
Printer installation failed, please check the print service.
or
FDeletePrinterPort - OpenPrinter failed. Error:1801
Followed by the OK button in the error message and the uninstalling of everything up until that point.
Causes and solutions:
The probable causes and solutions of this issue are listed below:
- Computer with Windows XP operating system
- Print Spooler service was turned off
- Computer with ARM processor
- Something might be corrupted in the .NET framework installation of the OS.
- Printer Spooler Folder in SYSTEM 32 folder is set to Deny

Computer with Windows XP operating system
Foxit PDF Editor and Foxit PDF Reader are not compatible with Windows XP anymore since version 7.When you try to install Foxit PDF Editor/Reader on windows XP system, you would fail to install it and get the error message mentioned in this article. We suggest you upgrade your OS to a newer version (such as windows 10) before you install Foxit again.
Print Spooler service was turned off
If the Print Spooler service in your computer management was turned off, you would receive the error message referred in this article when you install Foxit PhantomPDF/Foxit Reader.
You have to turn on the Print Spooler before you install Foxit again. To turn on the Print Spooler, press the Windows key+R on your keyboard at the same time to open the Run box,input services.msc in the run line, click OK button to open computer management to check if you have keep the service Print Spooler on? If not, please start it.
ARM is a type of processor used in a computer that affects the applications that you can install on your computer. Our Foxit PDF Editor (Prior to V10.1)/Foxit PDF Reader (Prior to V10.0) are not compatible with ARM processors yet. If your computer uses an ARM processor, you can’t install the Foxit PDF Editor (Prior to V10.1)/Foxit PDF Reader (Prior to V10.0) there. To check whether your computer uses an ARM Processor or not, please do the following steps:

Press Windows key + R on your keyboard at the same time to open the Run command line.

Type msinfo32.exe.

Press Enter.

Under System Summary, look at the System Type field. If it shows ARM-based PC, your PC is running on an ARM processor and isn’t compatible with Foxit PhantomPDF/Foxit Reader.
In conclusion, there is not any way to install Foxit PDF Editor (Prior to V10.1)/Foxit PDF Reader (Prior to V10.0) on computer uses ARM processor,please download a more newer version of Foxit PDF Editor/Reader for installing on computer with ARM processor. Something might be corrupted in the .NET framework installation of the OS
If something is corrupted in the .NET framework installation of the OS also could cause such issue.For this situation,please downloaded the .NET Framework Repair Tool from Microsoft and run it to check the installation,it would report errors,please repair those errors.
After then Foxit PhantomPDF would be correctly installed.
Printer Spool Folder in SYSTEM 32 folder is set to Deny
A Microsoft critical error with the print drivers that happened sometime in April, 2021. A fix from Microsoft was to set the Printer folder to "DENY" under the System32>Spool folder, The fix was implemented in May but a number of users did not remove the Deny option. Going to the Drivers folder under the Spool folder and removing the "Deny" may resolve the issue.
